Key finding: The federal manufactured housing construction standard took effect June 15, 1976

The federal manufactured housing construction and safety standard took effect on June 15, 1976. The date is useful for a document search, but it does not prove that a particular home complies with every applicable requirement.

Track the evidence, not just the year

Record the home's serial number, certification label information, data plate reference, inspection or repair documents, and the source reviewed. A virtual assistant can index the files, identify missing fields, and prepare a queue. A code official, inspector, attorney, or other qualified professional should answer technical or legal questions.

Part 3280 addresses construction and safety standards. Installation is addressed separately in Part 3285. Keep those references distinct so a team does not treat a construction record as proof of correct installation.

Make old records usable

Use a naming convention that includes the home identifier and document date. Keep the original file, the source link, and the person who verified it. If a document conflicts with another record, preserve both and assign an owner for resolution.
