Verify the current title and liens
Record the title number, the owner name, the lienholder, and the state of issue. Confirm the title is paper or electronic and who holds it.
Do not rely on a bill of sale as proof of title.
Build the package by state
List the forms, signatures, fees, and inspections required by the state. Record the source and the date.
Check name spelling and the vehicle identification number twice.
Track submission and receipt
Record the submission date, the tracking number, and the returned title. Note any correction request and the owner.
Keep the final title copy with the transaction record.
